New Committee are Elected for 2011/12
The September AGM was the most attented on record...it must have had something to do with the gin tasting! At the meeting the new committee were elected and are now listed on the 'committee' page of this website. The annual awards were also presented to nominated riders. This year the senior award was given to Chris Smith and the junior award to Annabel MacGregor, both very active members of the club who have demonstrated good sportsmanship and are always keen to participate.

The club would like to extend its sincere thanks to Jo Friend and Michelle Couldwell, both long standing committee members who have now stepped down from their posts. Both will continue to be members of the riding group and help to ensure our club is successful in the future.

Jo Friend will step down in September as Chair
Jo Fiend has decided to hand over the reins of SW&DRG and encourages others to get involved in the running of the club. The committee would like to thank Jo for her tireless help, enthusiasm and drive since the riding club was founded several years ago. Jo will still be an active club member and a fervent bridleways campaigner.

Holidays for Horses
One of our new members, Liz Howsley, has set up a business which helps groups of riders to arrange holidays with their horses. Holidays can be tailored to the specific requirements of the group and can be from a couple of days in duration to several weeks. Liz has also arranged adult horse camps for 2011. If you would like more information then please follow the website link above.

Founder Member Lynn Bowler Steps Down from Committee
The committee would like to thank Lynn for her enthusiasm and efforts in  ensuring the smooth running of SW&DRG. Lynn has been our treasurer since the club was set up and is always willing to get involved with any number of activities. This now means that there will be a place available on the committee if any of the membership would like to get involved. Please contact one of the committee members if you would like to join us (you don't have to be a treasurer, but could be an ordinary committee member)

Jane Portas Achievement Award 2010
This award has been given to one of our founder members this year; Jo Friend. Jo has worked very hard to help organise events for the riding group and is a tireless campaigner for equine rights of way. Jo shares her horse Tess with her husband Tony and together they are involved in hunting, pleasure rides and are regulars at Trec and the club show. Well done Jo!

The club also has a Junior Achievement Award which will be presented to Georgina Pugh-Lewis at the Charity Bingo Night. Georgina has grown in confidence during the last year and has developed a really strong bond with her current pony; Cookie. The pair have taken part in numerous shows, been on Pony Club Camp, been hunting and taken part in several pleasure rides. Keep up the good work Georgie!

Working Hunter Jumps
The Riding Group has purchased a set of wooden working hunter wings and fillers. We intend to invest in some poles soon. These jumps are currently stored locally and we intend to run some working hunter clinics and have some clear round/schooling sessions soon. Watch this space!

Bridle Path Concerns
If you have any concerns about bridle paths in this area then please contact your local bridleways officer. Details have now been posted on this site about how to contact rights of way officers locally...
